we hav e a few good submissions already... Mold anyone?

29:18
Mold definitely is a “plus” (at least for this contest)!

30:25
So, does AIDS hurt? What's the verdict in that book?

30:53
IT WAS THE SUBTITLE! Feminism!

38:07
If you came late, we are taking questions as they come up, type them in chat, or just unmute yourself and ask away

42:32
I just had a bunch of books donated. Can't use most so have contacted the school to see if they would like some. The wonderful lady who donated said we could do what we wanted with them

43:40
Cost of adding an item equals the number of items added per year divided by the annual cost of materials (book covers, barcode labels, stamps, etc.) plus the total pay and benefits of the staff members processing those items.

44:05
Freedom to view? don't know this one

44:27
will get links for all of these for all of us

44:36
Thanks!

45:54
The donation issue is definitely becoming more prevalent as we are building our new library. People offering to the community to store donations for us, in spite of my explanation that there is a lot of effort involved in processing books, and we need to add desired items and not just fill the shelves. Small towns are interesting in that there are more feelings involved, comments like, "Grandma is so excited to see her romance novel collection in the new library!" We definitely need to update our policies to help with this issue.

46:42
Preach on

46:57
Does that mean we can't put the R rating on it.

48:08
Does that mean we need to take the rating stickers off?

48:41
I have a board meeting tonight

50:00
Can I have an orange label on them and in a different area of the family ones.

50:22
I would consider this a "procedure" issue - not a policy statement

53:01
It is accessible, they are all in the same area. Thank you.

54:10
yeah! We have Freedom to read and Freedom to View as an appendix in our policy

54:25
good job Connie!

55:03
Starting from the ground up like we are getting ready to do is great, but also overwhelming. I'd be completely lost without NEKLS offering to help me when the time comes! This information is so timely and much appreciated. Is there a way to print all these slides later?

55:22
We will share out slides, and the video!

55:32
I had person tell me one time I could not get rid of Danielle Steel books. [she was not a patron] I told her we did not have anyone reading them anymore so I do not buy the new ones any longer

55:36
also sample policies

55:41
Wonderful, thank you, Dan!

56:02
Haha, great idea!

57:10
The library in Moscow, Idaho, had a huge collection of books with knitting patterns and my wife never used that section of the Moscow library. She went to the library in Pullman, Washington, where they only had about 25% of the number of knitting books. The reason my wife liked that collection more is because, if she wanted to browse, she didn't have to go through 20 books full of leg warmers and Cosby sweaters to find a book with new patterns.

57:54
Lol, great point, George! :D

58:03
Any one who brings in donations I give a speech. We take donations, we will use what we can but what we can't we will sell or give away [unless you would like them back] NO ONE wants them back

58:57
You should not have the 2012 Study for the GRE book.

01:00:23
Should we be weeding those irrelevant books when people are still checking it out? we have people who want a book on an outdated version of mac because they don't necessarily know the difference, for example. Our weeding is heavily done by circ rate, but if it is incredibly out of date I want to get rid of it.

01:04:34
NEKLS folks . . . the CREW method that Gail is championing here is the same approach we recommend for weeding. NEKLS can assist you with using this tool.

01:05:48
I have more adults reading the YA books than teens. So they do read some of the older stuff

01:09:19
I was whistling "The Chipmunk Song" until Gail mentioned The Monkees. Now I'm on to "Pleasant Valley Sunday."

01:09:39
thank god for mute

01:09:40
I love that description of the children’s section!

01:09:59
Anna, I love it too

01:10:06
I have a compulsive whistling disorder.

01:10:16
When Gail said the chipmunks was old I thought of the Crickets they were before the Chipmunks LOL

01:15:59
Thank you Gail!!

01:16:11
This was so very helpful, thank you Gail and NEKLS!!

01:16:26
You are very welcome Traci!

01:16:30
Thank You Gail! I got more weeding to do!

01:16:46
Don’t be afraid to get that weeding done, Connie.

01:17:38
Oh my god that inventory was the worst...

01:17:47
At CKLS we inventoried our rotating collections in January.

01:18:02
We uncovered all the lost stuff and got the catalog cleaned up.

01:19:03
The inventory report is really cool and a great help.

01:19:06
just know guys that when you are inventorying the stuff you have marked missing inventory doesn't show up on the catalog.... So doing that while you are closed to the public during a wquartantine and the catalog is the only way for them to see the collection is the wrong way to go.

01:19:22
Weeding and inventory are done continuously at Williamsburg.

01:19:30
Good job, She!

01:20:10
Opps! Shae.

01:25:25
I love the local copies and catalog columns. I want that!

01:26:27
Love this!

01:27:00
wrapping up here folks!

01:27:35
haha, love it!

01:28:31
Yay, Gail!!! Thanks so much!

01:28:32
Thank you, Gail!

01:28:43
When is the December meeting again?

01:28:47
You should all feel empowered to weed! Go forth!

01:29:06
Thank you guys! And thank you Gail. I've already messaged the others about the rating stickers.

01:29:29

01:31:09
A great make and take is book art like folding

01:31:35
Better world is great. We actually do a book sale and then run them through better world

01:31:46
